Electronic coupling responsible for energy transfer in columnar liquid crystals

1999

Electronic coupling is the driving force for energy transfer in molecular materials and consists of several components. We determine the strength of dipolarrmultipolar coupling and coupling due to orbital overlap for excitation transport in triphenylene columnar liquid crystals. We use time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy and computer simulations. The fit of the experimental and simulated fluorescence decays reveals that the transfer process is dominated by short range interactions .multipolar and orbital overlap but the contribution of long range dipolar interactions cannot be neglected. q 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. EPR Studies of Atomic Impurities in Rare Gas Matrices

2003

In this article we give an overview of the matrix isolation technique combined with electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) detection for embedded atomic impurities in solid rare gases. A special emphasis is put on impurity – matrix coupling effects combining both experimental and theoretical approaches.

Tunable Polarons in Bose-Einstein Condensates

2017

A toolbox for the quantum simulation of polarons in ultracold atoms is presented. Motivated by the impressive experimental advances in the area of ultracold atomic mixtures, we theoretically study the problem of ultracold atomic impurities immersed in a Bose-Einstein condensate mixture (BEC). The coupling between impurity and BEC gives rise to the formation of polarons whose mutual interaction can be effectively tuned using an external laser driving a quasi-resonant Raman transition between the BEC components. Our scheme allows one to change the effective interactions between polarons in different sites from attractive to zero. This is achieved by simply changing the intensity and the frequ…

The use of local electrochemical probes and surface analysis methods to study the electrochemical behaviour and pitting corrosion of stainless steels

2007

Abstract In this paper, the electrochemical microcell technique is combined with ex situ (SIMS and XPS) and in situ (SVET) techniques to study the electrochemical behaviour and pitting corrosion of inclusion-contaning stainless steels. Dissolution of metallurgical heterogeneities, depassivation and pitting mechanisms are first discussed in 1 M NaClO4, pH 3, and 1 M NaCl, pH 3, by considering the chemical composition and morphology of inclusions. The influence of the chemical composition of passive films on the electrochemical reactions and the microgalvanic coupling processes occurring at the corrosion potential is also investigated on the same specimen microstructure.

Triazolopyridines 23.1 Synthesis of 5,5'-bi[1,2,3]triazolo[5,1-a]isoquinoline

2004

5,5'-Bi[1,2,3]triazolo[5,1-a]isoquinoline 6 has been synthesised from [1,2,3]triazolo[5,1-a] isoquinoline 5 by four procedures, dimerisation by LDA, Stille and Suzuki self-coupling reactions, and Suzuki cross-coupling reaction. The last is the best. Compound 6 gives 1,1'- bi(acetoxymethyl)-3,3'-biisoquinoline 10 by triazolo ring opening by acetic acid. Digitalized bioeconomy: Planned obsolescence-driven circular economy enabled by Co-Evolutionary coupling

2019

Driven by digital solutions, the bioeconomy is taking major steps forward in recent years toward achievement of the long-lasting goal of transition from a traditional fossil economy to a bioeconomy-based circular economy. The coupling of digitalization and bioeconomy is leading towards a digitalized bioeconomy that can satisfy the shift in consumers’ preferences for eco-consciousness, which in turn induces coupling of up-down stream operation in the value chain. Thus, the co-evolution of the coupling of digitalization and bioeconomy and of upstream and downstream operations is transforming the forest-based bioeconomy into a digital platform industry. Aiming at addressing this transformation…

Co-evolutionary coupling leads a way to a novel concept of R&D - Lessons from digitalized bioeconomy

2020

Given the increasing role of research and development (R&D) in competitive markets in the digital economy while confronting the dilemma between R&D expansion and a productivity decline, transformation of the R&D model has become a crucial subject for global digital leaders. The authors of this paper postulate that neo open innovation harnessing the vigor of external innovation resources which then developed into a new concept of R&D that self-transforms during an R&D process initiated by Amazon by coupling with users. The authors further develop these postulates by proposing the embedding of a growth characteristic identical to biological coupling. An empirical analysis focusing on the fore…

Case studies and coupling of processes

2007

This chapter with eight authored sections presents a selection of possible application of microdynamic simulation to address geological questions. The various processes that have been introduced in the previous chapter were used, sometimes with minor additions or modifications. Because processes in rocks never operate in isolation, the reader will see that the various authors in this chapter have combined two or more processes to simulate the microstructural development under investigation. As such the authors have fully taken advantage of the possibility of the Elle software to couple processes.

A microscopic monomeric mechanism for interpreting intrinsic optical bistability observed in Yb3+-doped bromide materials

2004

We present a mechanism able to show intrinsic bistable behaviour involving single Yb3+ ions embedded into bromide lattices, in which intrinsic optical bistability (IOB) has been observed. The mechanism is based on the experimentally found coupling between the Yb3+ ion and the totally symmetric local mode of vibration of the [YbBr6]3- coordination unit. The model reproduces the IOB observed in CsCdBr3:1% Yb3+ and allows to understand the experimentally found presence of the phenomenon in the other bromides, but its absence in Cs3Lu2Cl9:Yb3+.
